How much can I get for a junk car in Detroit?
Most complete vehicles land between $250 and $700. What moves the number is weight, year, whether the vehicle is complete, and whether the catalytic converter is still on it. A stripped car with no converter and no wheels is worth scrap steel and little else; a heavy complete SUV that simply will not start is worth considerably more. Tell us the year, make, model and what is missing and you get a firm number on the call.
Can I sell a junk car in Michigan without a title?
Usually yes if the vehicle is 15 years old or older — Michigan allows those to be sold for scrap on proof of ownership rather than a title, and a photo ID plus the registration or an insurance card normally covers it. If the vehicle is newer than that we need the title in your name. A duplicate title is Form TR-11L at any Secretary of State branch and is usually same-day, so a missing title rarely stops the sale, it just delays it by a day.
Do you charge to tow the junk car away?
No. Pickup and towing are free and are not deducted from your offer. Watch for buyers who quote a high number and then subtract a tow fee at the door — that deduction is where a good offer quietly becomes a poor one.
Do you buy cars that do not run?
That is most of what we buy. Non-running, wrecked, flood-damaged, seized engine, blown transmission, no keys, flat tires, sitting for a decade with a tree growing through it — all of it is fine. A car that does not run is a winch job, and a winch is standard equipment on the truck.
How fast can you pick it up?
Same day across most of Metro Detroit if you call in the morning, and usually next day at the latest. It is a scheduled pickup rather than an emergency dispatch, so we agree a window with you rather than telling you to wait by the window.
What do I need to do before you arrive?
Three things. Take the licence plate off — in Michigan the plate belongs to you, not the car. Empty the glovebox, boot and under the seats, because whatever is in there leaves with the car. And have your photo ID and either the title or the registration ready for the driver.
Do I have to be there when you pick it up?
Somebody with the paperwork and the authority to sell does, because that is the person we hand the cash to and sign with. If you cannot be there yourself, arrange for someone you trust to have the documents and let dispatch know who to expect.
